Turning the tables on the cost vs reward equation, once you overclock the Ryzen 3 1200 its overall value sky rockets. This really is a CPU that was meant for overclocking as it may still be slower than a 1300X but its reduced asking price more than makes up for this shortcoming. As such only you can decide which is best for your particular needs. Our recommendation would be simple: at stock spend the extra $20 and get the 1300X, for overclocking get the 1200… as it is downright fun to see what it can do.
