OpenSCAD “Pistol” Rendering Benchmark
This benchmark combines the power of OpenSCAD (https://openscad.org/) with a custom rendering script created, and maintained by Michael Larabel (https://www.michaellarabel.com/). It is part of the “Phoronix Test Suite” (https://github.com/phoronix-test-suite). This fairly quick benchmark runs a custom script that times how long it takes to render the ‘Pistol” SCAD asset(s) to PNG output. All tests are run 5 times with the average result in seconds displayed.
SolidWorks Performance Test (CPU only)
SolidWorks is a solid modeling computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided engineering (CAE) application published by Dassault Systèmes. While not as well known as some other professional CAD programs it is a powerful CAD program that can bring even the most powerful of systems to their knees. To help ensure professionals actually have enough horsepower it comes with a simple, yet decent, benchmark. Consisting of many parts it tests the entire system. However, only the CPU portion of the results are recorded.
winRAR Benchmark
WinRAR is a popular file compression and decompression tool that also happens to be multi-threaded application. While it does have a built in benchmark we have opted to use a custom 5GB test consisting of small, medium, and moderately large files. We then time how long it takes to compress the files into one .rar file with all WinRAR settings left at their defaults.
