Performance: 36 out of 40.
On the one hand the LaCie 1Big Dock SSD Pro 4TB offers insane levels of storage performance. Transcoding times will be as low as you will find in any external storage solution. Furthermore, it can indeed combine three separate components into one neat and tidy package. On the other, as a dock its performance is merely adequate due to lack of extra USB ports. Most professionals will need to use an external USB hub in addition to this ‘all in one’ dock. This is the exact same misstep its less expensive 1Big Dock brethren make and one that could and should have been easily avoided if the Pro variant had a bit effort put into the design modification stage.

Technological Innovation: 17 out of 20
This is a dock we can see a lot of people wanting to own and use. It is fast, it is durable, and it even looks like something that belongs on a professional’s work desk. Counteracting this is that generally speaking some of its innovative ideas need a bit more TLC. For example, the 3.5-inch adapter could/should have been a dual drive model. It should have come with more USB ports, and it should have better power delivery performance than its non-Pro brethren. This does reduce its score in this category. Hopefully a future “version 2.0” fixes these missteps.

Build Quality & Warranty: 20 out of 20
Everything from a robust chassis, to over-engineered rubber feet, to using some of the best components out there screams quality. Mix in a five-year warranty, with 5 years of Rescue Service included, and we doubt anyone will have anything but nits to pick on this side of things.

Value: 17 out of 20
For professionals the minutes, and possibly hours, of time this bad boy will shave off makes the LaCie 1Big Dock SSD Pro worth it and then some. This massive time saving really will quickly make the LaCie 1Big Dock SSD Pro pay for itself… and then continue on for years paying you dividends. Sadly, when talking about $3500+ devices we expect as close to perfection as possible. The missteps we highlighted in this review will tarnish the luster of this otherwise lust inducing dock should invoke in serious professionals.

Final Score: 90 out of 100
While the LaCie 1Big Dock SSD Pro 4TB will not be right for everyone, that is perfectly fine. It is actually better than fine. This is not a jack of all trades model meant for the typical consumer. It has been designed by professionals who know what is needed in a working tool, and that is who this model is meant for. So, if you want to recover a veritable fortune in lost time the LaCie 1Big Dock SSD Pro 4TB should be on your short list. Its blend of durability and performance may not be perfect but it easily can justify its asking price to those it was designed for.
