TL;DR
Two things did pop out when we started crunching the numbers. Firstly, the XFX GTS Radeon RX 580 Black does hold its own against newer NVIDIA card designs at lower resolutions. This is a good 1080P and decent 1440P resolution card. Regardless of how ‘old’ the design is. The other, is even though it does have more memory and a wider memory bus the older Polaris 20 design cannot properly harness this extra power when compared against newer NVIDIA core designs. As such memory really is not a major deciding factor. Put simply, it really is a great example of brute force vs elegance… with some it will be “quantity has a quality all its own” and others will simply find it ‘inelegant’ in how it obtains its performance. Either way this is not a card to ignore when looking for an inexpensive upgrade.
