If we had to summarize the Kingston HyperX Fury DDR4-2666 32GB kit in one short phrase that phrase would be “Plug and Play simplicity”. Usually when dealing with factory overclocked RAM there is usually some minor issues that you need to be aware, this kit on the other hand has none. All you need do is install and enjoy. No fuss, no hassle, no drama. This alone made us predisposed to liking this kit and while we usually reach for higher speed for our own personal systems, as a system builder we prize stability and ease of use above everything. Hell this kit is so user-friendly that we did not even need enable the XMP profile as the JDEC profiles programmed in to the onboard SPD chips allows this kit to hit DDR4-2666 all on its own! Yes, that is correct. Darn near any Z170 motherboard worthy of the Z170 moniker will read the profile, and give you 2666 speeds, and not 2133, without any interaction. MSI, Gigabyte, ASUS… we tried them all and this kit will power up the first time at 2666. All that is missing is the CL15 timing (instead you ‘only’ get CL16). Brilliant, brilliant stuff!
The secret to this low hassle, low drama, yet impressive abilities is the fact that Kingston has opted for 1.2v RAM ICs. This means the board can ‘overclock’ the RAM sticks all without your interaction as that is what motherboards expect the RAM to need. Of course the other side to this coin is that you will not be able to push this kit as high as you can reasonably expect 1.35v based sets to go. This is pretty much the trade-off that has to be made when choosing any RAM kit: ease of use vs shear performance. Now with that said you can easily push this kit to DDR4-3200 levels with very little hassle. That certainly should be high enough to satisfy most consumers needs and make this trade-off easier to swallow.
Also helping to make this kit even more enticing is the fact that with a price of only $160 USD darn near all consumers can justify going for 32GB instead of 16GB. Great performance, excellent ease of use, perfect stability, good looks, and even good overclocking potential, this kit nearly has everything the typical consumer could ask for. The only consumers who may not be impressed are those looking to hit above the DDR4-3200 range, and those who may find the all black color profile clashes with their custom color scheme they are using for a build. In other words, no kit is going to be right for everyone (and all builds), but for most the Kingston HyperX Fury DDR4-2666 32GB kit will make a down right excellent choice.
