Much like its 3060 Ti predecessor, the MSI GeForce RTX 4060 Ti Gaming X Trio’s shipping container is big, it is colorful, it is attention getting, and it is festooned with information. All things we like to see without the typical “1337 G4M3R” nonsense some manufactures resort to in order to stand out. Mix in a nice and large picture of the card itself and MSI has knocked it out of the park when it comes to first impressions… as this box just plain looks like it is a premium product. Just the way it should be on premium priced models.
With that said, some may not be expecting the sheer size of this x60 Ti class card’s shipping container. To help put these upsized dimensions, for a piddly “little” x60 Ti class, in proper perspective… the above photo shows this beefy boi’s box behind a full sized, ATX, motherboard. Notice how the Tomahawk Z790’s box is smaller in all three dimensions? Yeah. That’s how big this shipping container is.
On the plus size, all that extra room means extra room for protection. To be precise when you do open your fancy new RTX 4060 Ti Gaming X Trio’s box up (as we are going to call it for brevity’s sake) you can see that it makes use of nearly surreal levels of foam padding. Needless to say, you can feel comfortable shipping this box across town, across your state, your country… or your continent. Even around the world. No matter how long Mister Shipper has it, its pretty much a sure thing that it will arrive safe and sound.
Sadly, the one area that does not live up the large dimensions of this card is the accessories it ships with. In grand total… you get a couple pamphlets, some marketing material, and a support bracket to further help keep the card from sagging over time from its own weight. On the positive side this support bracket is pretty much the perfect example of the levels of overengineering that went into the RTX 4060 Ti Gaming X Trio. Basically, when you mix over 1mm thick steel (and we mean real steel. Steel that can be picked up with a strong enough magnet steel), with advanced geometry to further increase its rigidity the end result is more than up to the task of supporting the biggest GeForce RTX 4090 ever imagined… let alone this RTX 4060 Ti class card.
The only downside to this excellent support bracket is it does partially block the centrally located RGB LED diffusers on the top…
And completely on the bottom edges of the card.
Also very… very nice to see is the fact that MSI has once again spurned NVIDIA’s “suggestions” on using their fancy (yet very finicky) 12 or 16-pin power connector. Instead, MSI went for a tried and true 150-watt capable PCIe 8-pin connector. Quiet honestly, when dealing with a card that has big a footprint as this three fan beast, the very idea of making the power connector smaller so as to reduce the real world footprint is… well… absurd.
So instead of going with a connector that offers nothing but headaches (for 4060 Ti class cards) MSI made the rational decision to offset the ‘old school’ power connector enough so that it does not add all that much to the overall footprint. To be precise they offset it a full 27mm in from the edge of the card and included a nicely sized cutout in the heatsink and backplate so that it is extremely easy to reach. It is little things like this that make MSI Gaming X cards such a pleasure to work with.
