The new 2000x Lexar certainly is an interesting card. On the one hand its speeds are everything the specifications would lead one to believe. That is to say this card, when paired with a UHS-II compatible device, is bloody amazing. We consistently saw speeds that no mere SD card should have been able to do and yet this card made such CompactFlash and QXD killing feats seem almost routine.
Unfortunately, the key word is ‘compatible’ as in all this additional speed is basically limited to a handful of devices – most of which are card readers and not cameras or camcorders. This is a shame as much like CFast 2.0, the rest of the market has not caught up with the newer UHS-II standards.
Thankfully this card is backwards compatible and worked perfectly in a wide variety of SD devices. Basically if your device can handle 128GB SD cards, it probably will have no problems reading and writing to this card. Of course it will do so in backwards compatibility mode – or about the same speed as earlier UHS-I cards can do. This may not sound all that impressive but it does make this card rather future proof – something many UHS-II cards before it could not claim to be. If you believe your next device will make use of the UHS-II interface (and this is a safe bet to be sure) the Lexar 2000X UHS-II SD card is sure to please now and for years to come.
