Accessories: 4 out of 5
Lifetime warranty, actually useful software, and usual clamshell card holder. There really is not much to complain about on this side of things.
Read performance: 24 out 25
160MB/s or ‘1066X’ is basically as fast as UDMA 7 allows for. Now that is fast. It is just too bad that Lexar released this series so late in CompactFlash’s lifespan and CFast 2.0 will (probably) start pushing CF out of the enthusiast marketplace in the next few years.
Write performance: 37 out of 40
The new Lexar 1066X sets a new performance standard for the CompactFlash marketplace. While yes its write performance is ‘only’ 1000x and not 1066 it is hard to complain too much about this minor discrepancy is hardly worth complaining about.
Warranty: 9 out of 10
Lexar is owned by Micron. This means that the Lexar Professional 1066’s lifetime warranty is indeed a true lifetime warranty – as Micron is not going anywhere. The only minor issue is RMA’ing one may mean shipping it to the States. If you have a Micron RMA depot in your country then you can consider this card a perfect 10.
Value: 18 out of 20
While yes the idea of spending $85 for a single CompactFlash card may seem counter intuitive for novice users, the fact of the matter is this new Lexar Professional series offers the best blend of performance and price you will find.
Final Score: 92 / 100
Great write performance, amazing read performance, and lifetime warranty. Usually we would call this new Lexar 1066X 64 CompactFlash model a triple threat…however on top of all this, the Lexar 1066X 64GB is also a great value as it basically costs the same as the older 64GB 800X model – or 15% less than SanDisk’s 1066X Extreme Pro series. Now that is one heck of a combination.
