As we have shown you in this article the EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 FTW DT is not capable of FTW feats of performance. It is however more than capable of trouncing SuperClocked class of cards. Obviously, what this means is that if you come across a 1070/1080/etc. FTW DT going for the same price as a non-DT FTW… get the FTW. Some people don’t know any better… and it is better to let someone else learn the hard way. Either is not going to happen all that often. Instead these crop up every once in a while, at SuperClocked prices… as the original owner is so PO’ed at EVGA they are rage quitting and buying a different manufactures card.
With all that said, we would not pay full-retail for this card. Yes, it is better than a SuperClocked class of cards, but the difference in price is not small enough to warrant it. Yes, it is even quieter than a SuperClocked but the savings of opting for a SC over a FTW DT can buy a lot of fans. Honestly EVGA would have been much better off calling this particular card a Reference Premium (or doing more factory testing and calling it a ‘SuperClocked Premium’) and selling it on the virtues of its cooling and beefy power subsystem. They did not. Instead they tried to call it a FTW series. That is why they got such bad press in the first place – as people’s expectations were not managed properly. The end result is a card that is much maligned and yet is worthy of consideration. You can push this SuperClocked… err FTW DT GeForce GTX 1070 harder and further than you can a SuperClocked.
Great performance at a usually great price is a winning one in our books so be on the look out for these ‘blue moon event’ cards… and when you see one going cheap snap it up. Or better yet, don’t and let us know so we can profit of someone else’s lack of forethought.
The Review
EVGA GTX 1070 FTW DT
While we would be hard pressed to justify the minor savings over a ‘true’ For The Win GTX 1070… at typical resale prices the value of this card skyrockets. So much so we strongly recommend keeping on the lookout for one if you are looking for a 1070 class card to add to your collection.
