Performance: 39 out of 40

There is very little doubt that the Crucial T705 Pro 2TB is one of the fastest M.2 2280 PCIe 5.0 drives available today. So yes. It is faster than the 1TB T705, and while it not ‘that’ much faster… it is faster. The only reason the 2TB capacity variant of the T705 Pro is not getting a perfect score is that the 11% pSLC buffer is a little small and this has left room for other companies to combine that exact same B58R NAND with that exact same Phison E26 controller… and get better extended / long-term performance. As such it is it so close but still has room for improvement is how we judge the 2TB T705 Pro.

Technological Innovation: 19 out of 20

Make no mistake Crucial made the T705 Pro series to be a showcase model for what their 2400MT/s B58R TLC R.G. NAND could do, and they did knock it out of the part with the 2TB capacity option. So until the SMI PCIe 5.0 controller, and Micron’s 272-layer replacement gate NAND, goes live this is about as close to perfection as you are going to find on the innovation front. Now if they only had no “innovated” on the OEM heatsink options we would be entirely happy.

Build Quality & Warranty: 18 out of 20

As we have stated multiple times in the past Crucial are known for three things: their conservativism, their commitment to customer service, and their build quality. All of which have garnered them an enviable reputation… and for the first time in a couple Crucial reviews the T705 2TB non-OEM heatsink edition not only lives up to that reputation in all three areas but actually sets the bar higher than where it was previously set. Color us impressed… and reassured.

Value: 18 out of 20

Crucial really is the victim of their own success and only if the 1TB T705 Pro was not such a phenomenal, albeit relative, value the 2TB T705 Pro would be firmly in no-brainer / slam-dunk success territory. Thankfully, for consumers, both capacity options are widely available and it is hard to say one is a better value than the other. As such we are giving it a solid 18. Just understand that some will consider it a perfect 20, while others will only consider it an ‘above average’ 15 out 20. Adjust your own final score accordingly.

Final Score : 94 out of 100

No matter if your final decision means you opt for the 1TB capacity option over this 2TB capacity variant of the Crucial T705 Pro one thing is for certain… the 2TB option is an excellent drive. It is big enough, it is fast enough, it is robust enough. It is more than just “good enough” in all categories that it is the gold standard upon which all future PCIe 5.0 SSDs must be judged. Even if said model is not made by Crucial. So if you want one of the best, and can justify it over the nearly equally impressive 1TB capacity, buy it. Enjoy it… and never even bother with second thoughts or doubts about your purchase.
