As you can see the custom cooling solution ASUS has created does indeed pay dividends. So much so that it makes this GTX 1070 into a rather unusual beast: one that acts more like a ‘Ti’ or even a ’80 rather than the middle of the road GTX 1070 that NVIIDIA envisioned back when it was first created. Needless to say, it easily justifies its asking price and then some.
TL;DR
Even though this card costs noticeable more than the typical GTX 1070 it is easily worth its price. In fact it such a bargain that many people should give serious consideration to this model vs. spending more for a reference GTX 1080. Color us impressed.
Score Card and Summary
Packaging & Accessories: 8 out of 10
The packaging and accessories are above average in their quality, they simply lack quantity. All in in all though we will take fewer bonus included items over a higher asking price any day.
Functionality & Aesthetics: 19 out of 20
This card is nearly perfect from a functionality and aesthetics point of view as on the cooling solution is amazingly effective and yet also rather pretty looking. Mix in customizable RGB lightning effects and the only gripe anyone will have with this card is its size – as oh boy it’s a big boy! As long as your case can accommodate its upsized dimensions you will love what it has to offer.
Build Quality & Warranty: 19 out of 20
Obviously this card is built to an entirely different standard than what most manufactures use and the end result is a card that is as robust and as refined as anything we have seen to date. The only minor point of contention is the three year warranty – which is merely ‘industry standard’ good.
Performance: 28 out of 30
As shown throughout this review the STRIX GTX 1070 08G is an amazing performer for its class, and with just a simple bit of tweaking it becomes a raging beast that gobbles up the competition. The only minor nit pick is the fact that ASUS did not work any magic on the memory side of things and that is a shame.
Value: 18 out of 20
This card is indeed more expensive than the typical GTX 1070 but honestly is price to performance ratio is so high that it makes GTX 1080’s look like a bad investment. Trust us, spend the few extra dollars for this model over a reference (or even typical factory overclocked) model. You will not be disappointed.
Final Score:92 out of 100
The ASUS STRIX GTX 1070 08G is the very epitome of what all NVIIDIA GTX 1070’s should strive to be. That is to say a great value that makes it rather difficult to justify spending more money for a 1080-series card.
