Performance: 36 out of 40.
Would we have liked to have seen 10-bit, full CIE color gamut abilities from this model? Yes. Would we have liked to have seen it come factory calibrated? Yes. We prefer wide color gamut monitors that are color correct ‘out of the box’ as we use our monitors for more than just gaming… however this is a very good 8-bit sRGB monitor that is ‘built by gamers for gamers’. At its intended goal it is an undeniable success as it offers levels of gaming immersion that belie its low asking price. Even excluding the asking price from the equation, the Nixeus NX-EDG34S is an excellent large format monitor which offers nearly everything you could ask for in a 21:9 curved monitor.
Technological Innovation: 19 out of 20
When you combine Samsung’s latest and greatest VA technology with AMD’s latest and greatest FreeSync technology and then manage to find a way to offer all that for less than 6 bills… well that is pretty much the very definition of innovation. The only minor issue is that the implementation of AMD’s FreeSync Adaptive-Sync only kicks in at 48Hz and not 30Hz like some of the smaller Nixeus EDG models.
Build Quality & Warranty: 17 out of 20
The weak link of the Nixeus NX-EDG34S is its stand. While it is one of the most stable stands we have seen come on any sub $1000 monitor it does lack height adjustment. This however is about the only major issue with the Nixeus NX-EDG34S when it comes to build quality. Counteracting the mediocrity in the stand department is all the key areas are more than nicely covered. The panel is top notch, albeit only 8bit capable, its FreeSync abilities are very good, and its three-year warranty puts to shame some other monitor manufacture’s offerings.
Value: 20 out of 20
Great gaming abilities? Check. Good ‘out of the box’ color accuracy? Check. Deep rich blacks and crystal-clear highlights? Check. An asking price so reasonable we had to check multiple times to make sure it was not a typo? Double Check. Simply put the Nixeus NX-EDG34S is the best value 21:9 ‘gaming’ monitor we have seen to date.
Final Score: 92 out of 100
With its combination of buttery smooth gaming abilities, massive screen real-estate, very good Samsung VA panel, and incredibly reasonable asking price the Nixeus NX-EDG34S is the epitome of value in a marketplace that has been sorely lacking in just that. Just understand the ‘S’ variant will come with a stand that may get the job done (and is extremely stable) but is lacking in advanced abilities. As such the Nixeus NX-EDG34 may be an even better option.
