Performance: 36 out of 40.
As long as you have the video card horsepower to handle 4K gaming the EDG274K is sure to please. The only issue will be having enough horsepower to stay above 48Hz. Below this and users will be relying upon LFC instead of VRR. That is actually a fairly high threshold to stay above, and when you do (inevitably) fall below it AMD card users will have a better experience than NVIDIA users. So while great, there is room for improvement. For day to day tasks there are almost no caveats. You will love the razor sharpness 4K on a 27-inch screen brings to the table. The only quibble here is the lack of 10-bit color depth… and you will have to satisfy yourself with ‘only’ a sRGB color pallet that nearly the entire Internet uses.
Technological Innovation: 18 out of 20
This monitor is stuffed with innovation. Everything from 144Hz at 4K over a single DisplayPort cable (DSC) to fine grain variable Over Drive abilities to AMD FreeSync Premium VRR support… the EDG274K has it. The only way Nixeus could have improved things is to use ULMB instead of OD for artifact reduction… and gone the fully monty with FreeSync Premium Pro certification.
Build Quality & Warranty: 18 out of 20
While nowhere close to what NEC and the like use for build quality, the Nixeus NX-EDG274K is pretty much the epitome of ‘good enough’. Thin enough, stable enough, sturdy enough, adjustable enough. Basically, good enough in any one category you care to mention so as to satisfy most people in most categories.
Value: 18 out of 20
Yes, dropping a cool 8 bills on a 27-inch monitor is no impulse buy; however, based on our sample that is money well spent. You will get a better, more flexible gaming experience than most. You will get clarity that has to be seen to be believed. This monitor really sets the bar awfully high for all 27-inch class monitors. Not just ‘gaming’ monitors. Color us impressed.
Final Score: 90 out of 100
It may not be perfect but Nixeus really does have another cult classic in the making with the new NX-EDG274K monitor. Everything from highly flexible (and enjoyable) gaming to extremely good general-purpose abilities. So no matter what your typical needs are the NX-EDG274K probably has you covered… or will as long as you have enough horsepower to not rely upon LFC and do not mind it being a 8-bit color capable monitor.
