Now we come to a new section of our video card reviews: and that is how to make money with your new purchase. Let’s face it ‘miners’ have caused GPU prices to skyrocket and for those who have very little intereste in mining this is a bad time to only be a PC gaming enthusiast. You really do need to think outside the box and try and recoup some of these losses. Thankfully that is not all that difficult. Get yourself a BTC wallet (we recommend electrum). Go to github, download NemosMiner v2 (https://github.com/nemosminer/NemosMiner-v2.3), plunk in your BTC wallet address and miner name into the config file… and then run the program. It will auto download all the necessary ‘miner’ files, benchmark them, ping hashrefinery.com’s pool prices… and mine the proper coin for you. To give you an idea of what this means in dollars and cents we did just that with this card using just one coin per day and this is what we received for that day’s worth of mining.
As you can see it will take very little time to recoup the cost of the video card… and that is why video card manufactures can charge so much for them! After all STRIX GTX 1070 08G costs $460 but comes with a three year warranty. Which means that as in little as 3 months’ish it could be ‘free’ and you could buy a second one just for gaming… and in 6 months time that card too could be free. Even if you decide to /gasp/ actually use the card for 6 months and game on it for 12 hours a day… it still we have paid for itself. As such we strongly recommend looking further into mining as a way to make parts pay for themselves. In the coming months we will have a more in-depth guide on exactly how to do this but trust us, even the most novice of users does not have to go the ‘nicehack’… errr ‘nicehash’ route to recover the cost of their shiny new parts.
Even after thinking about it and you decide it is not right for you it is another option and something else to use your video card for. Maybe you want to donate some of your free cycles for folding@home to help cure cancer. Maybe you just want to use it for gaming. All are valid uses, but now at least you may have another option… and as you can see it is a very, very persuasive option indeed!
