Recently, we reviewed an Intel Core Ultra X9 388H (with B390 iGPU) based laptop and walked away rather impressed with what that potent ultra-portable could offer consumers. With that said… it was a ~3K CanuckBuck laptop. For some, that kind of monetary outlay is a bit too much to be spending in this K-shaped economy. No matter how powerful. How pretty. How potent. The MSRP is just too much for some. In that review, we made mention of less expensive options coming down the pipe, such as those which would be rocking the Core Ultra X7 358H. Today, we can showcase one such example of this new “X7-class” processor and what it offers buyers. To be precise, we will be looking at the MSI Prestige 14 Flip AI+ D3MTG (aka “2026 edition”). Which will set buyers back aboot $2,349 CAD ($1,700 USD).

Make no mistake, this may be a noticeably less expensive alternative to the Asus ZenBook Duo we reviewed recently, but that has little to do with MSI cutting corners and even less with the Prestige 14 Flip AI+ being a ‘budget build’. The Prestige line is MSI’s mainstream business series (with ‘Summit’ being their premium, and “Modern” being value-oriented) and as such has a lot of features baked into it… some of which even the more expensive ZenBook competition does not. For example, an advanced vapor-chamber cooling solution that promises to be both more efficient and quieter than classic heat-pipe-based cooling solutions. A ‘digital pen’ that not only comes with the laptop, but can be stored and charged via an integrated holder molded right into the tried and true all (anodized) Aluminum chassis.
Also features like a 14-inch, 120Hz (with VRR) OLED-based touchscreen that may lack ‘3K’ resolution (and rather is 1920×1200… aka WUXGA…or what MSI calls ‘FHD+’) but comes with better antiglare coating than the ZenBook Duo. So much better, you can actually see the screen when outside, or just even directly under the glare of boardroom bulbs. Furthermore, this is a 100% DCI-P3 screen that is attached via a 360-degree hinge that allows for ‘tablet’ mode instead of just lying flat on the table. Mix in more USB ports (dual Type C and Dual Type A) with a right-sized 81Wh battery and it is obvious that MSI’s Prestige series is all about getting work done… while being palatable to those who authorize the purchase orders.
With all that said, this is a $2349 (CAD or about 1700 USD) ultra-portable laptop. Typically, when you see “under 2K USD” and “ultraportable” in the same sentence, you should also add in “underwhelming performance” and possibly even “cut a lot of corners to hit the price target”. However, Intel’s Core 300 “Panther Lake” mobile processor line has a couple of tricks up its sleeve. Namely, a 7-class processor (“358H” to be precise) that is the exact same as the X9 (388H) with the exact same P/E/LP core count… just that they are clocked a smidgen slower (4.8Ghz/3.5/3.3 vs 5.1/3.8/3.7). Mix in the exact same BattleMage B390 (with Celestial goodness baked in) and that 1-2 combo goes a long way to reassuring experienced buyers that sometimes things are just priced better than the competition. That, at least, is the promise MSI is making to buyers this year… so without further ado lets put this model to the test and see if MSI once again has a great business-oriented laptop that is also a great value.
